This parade would be pointless and Trump must have a secret motive for wanting to do this because this isn’t going benefit anyone. As Americans, many people do greatly appreciate the U.S. military, but to the average educated person, they can see that this isn’t just a spontaneous act of appreciation. The most obvious thing one might guess about Trump’s reason for this is the flaunting of the U.S. military’s power.
Firstly, if this assumption is true, the American military is already world renown and recognized as one of the greatest in the world. It has been noticed because of its exemplary model of military professionalism, so why would this be necessary to show if this is nothing new? This might indeed have something to do with President Trump’s aggressive feud with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Secondly, if Trump really wants to do this as a harmless act of civil appreciation, why is he trying to one-up France? Many Americans have great pride in our country just as President Trump does, so it’s understandable why he wants it to be a great parade, but this makes it lose some of its meaning and authenticity in doing so. This idea of Trump’s wanting for our parade to be better than France’s Bastille Day, makes it seem almost like a competition and that is exactly what it’s not about. It should be more focused on not how it’s presented, but instead showing the true meaning of how important our military is to the people. In addition, the American people already have days where they show their acknowledgement towards the importance of the military on days such as, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and possibly the Fourth of July. It isn’t a secret that many Americans are ignorant to some of these holidays because the peaceful life of the people that many take for granite, isn’t always reminded of the hardships that the military has to go through in order to maintain that peace and a national parade would be a good way to educate more people about that, but first things first, who’s paying? Last, but unfortunately not limited to is, as much as this great country is known for our prestigious military, we are also known by another factor which is our massive debt. Currently as of the year 2018, America is about 20.6 trillion dollars and counting in debt which is clearly an inconceivable amount of money, so why would Trump even think about wasting money on a parade. It’s already been figured out that it would cost millions of dollars just to move military paraphernalia to Washington D.C. and in the current state of things, the U.S. can’t afford this. Most people know that Trump’s pockets are overflowing with money, but he’s clearly to selfish with it to fund this extra-ordinary event, and the next one responsible for picking up that tab is “We the People”.

This is a good op-ed with a clear set of reason of why trump wants to have this parade and reasons why Dylan does not think it is an event that should be held. He constantly goes back to the main reason why it is not a good idea and a clear set of facts as to why Trump has a ridiculous cause for having such a lavish event.
